Dental Health Week: Precious Time and Precious Teeth
2 August 2017 · About the author: Dr Halim Prayogo (Dentist)
Dental Health Week runs from 7 to 13 August and focuses on oral health for busy lives. Dedicating a little more time each day to brushing, flossing, hydration and eating well ultimately saves time and money, and keeps you in good shape for whatever your busy life throws at you.
Think of your life as one long trip
An essential for saving time on your teeth is a portable dental kit: a soft-bristled travel toothbrush with a cover, fluoride toothpaste, floss and floss threaders, and a fluoride mouthwash, so you are always ready to look after your teeth wherever you are.
At-home care
Brush for two minutes, twice a day, and floss at least once a day, ideally at night. Cleaning your tongue with a scraper, your toothbrush or floss is an easy addition to your routine, and finishing with a 30-second mouthwash rinse rounds out a routine that totals only about four minutes.
The role of diet
Harmful acids and bacteria are left behind by foods high in sugar and carbohydrates, including soft drinks, some fruit juices, and starchy foods such as pasta, bread and cereal. Taking care of your nutritional needs and avoiding sugary, acidic foods is a big step towards saving time on dental treatment down the road.
