Child Dental Benefit Schedule

Is your child eligible?

The Child Dental Benefit Schedule entitles eligible children aged 2 to 17 to $1,000 of dental care over a two-year period. To be eligible, a child should be:

• Eligible for Medicare
• Aged 2 to 17 for at least one day of the calendar year
• A member of a family receiving an eligible government payment for at least one day of the calendar year, such as the Parenting Payment, ABSTUDY, Disability Support Pension, Carer Payment, Special Benefit, Double Orphan Pension or Youth Allowance

Once approved, a child receives benefits for two consecutive years from their first eligible appointment.

Dental services covered by CDBS

• Check-ups
• Scaling and cleaning
• Oral hygiene instructions
• Fluoride treatment
• Fillings
• Fissure sealants
• Tooth extractions
• Radiographs or x-rays

Orthodontic and cosmetic dental procedures, and any treatment conducted in hospital, are not covered under CDBS. Dental treatment provided under the scheme does not count towards the Medicare Safety Net or Extended Medicare Safety Net thresholds.
