Reasons for dental bridges

  • Filling the gap left by missing teeth
  • Supporting and maintaining proper facial shape
  • Preventing the remaining teeth from shifting out of position
  • Upgrading from a removable partial denture to a fixed appliance

The dental bridge procedure

The procedure generally requires two appointments. At the first, the tooth is prepared for the bridge abutments and an impression taken, giving the dental laboratory an exact mould from which to fabricate the bridge. A temporary bridge protects the exposed teeth and gums while the permanent version is made, then the temporary bridge is removed and the permanent one fitted.

Dental bridges can be made from gold, porcelain fused to metal, metal alloy, zirconia or ceramic. Your dentist will discuss the pros and cons of each to help you choose the right option for your smile and budget.
