How dentures work

Dentures are a removable appliance, fabricated using acrylic or cobalt chrome with false teeth added, which help with speech and chewing, support your lips and chin, and improve the appearance of your smile. They are held in place by clasps that anchor around neighbouring teeth, or by natural suction, sometimes assisted by a denture fixative. Every denture is designed by the dentist and dental technician to suit the individual patient.

The process of getting new dentures

Getting dentures commonly takes two to four appointments, starting with an initial consultation and accurate impressions of your teeth, which are sent to the dental laboratory. A custom tray is fabricated to set a more precise mould in wax, which is used to create the final dentures. These are then fitted, their comfort and fit evaluated, and you are given instructions on how to care for your new dentures.
